Andrew Rodriguez

Andrew J. Rodriguez is an Afro-Dominican filmmaker from The Bronx whose work sits at the intersection of history, imagination, and community collaboration. Working across a variety forms of filmmaking, Rodriguez builds worlds informed by lived experience and archival history, using storytelling as a practice of preservation; centering intersectional perspectives and the voices of underserved communities.

In 2025, Rodriguez was awarded a $30,000 Vimeo Short Film Grant, presented by Nikon and RED Digital Cinema, to fund, equip, mentor, and distribute his latest cinematic project, Spaceboi. That same year, his short film El Tiguere screened at the Tribeca Festival and was selected as one of three films through Colectivo, Lin-Manuel Miranda’s fellowship and filmmaking initiative supporting emerging Latino filmmakers through funding, mentorship, and exhibition opportunities.

Rodriguez has also been the recipient of the 2020 Student Discovery Award, sponsored by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation and the Tribeca Film Institute, for his work as writer of the pilot film Plus. In 2022, he was also named a Valentine and Clarke Filmmaker Fellow through the Jacob Burns Film Center’s Creative Culture Fellowship.
