
Kamilah Forbes is an award-winning director, producer, and cultural leader who serves as Executive Producer of the world-famous Apollo Theater. Recognized for championing works by, for, and about the Hip-Hop generation, Forbes has directed acclaimed productions including By the Way, Meet Vera Stark, Blood Quilt, and Sunset Baby, and served as associate director for Broadway’s A Raisin in the Sun and NBC’s Emmy Award-winning The Wiz Live!
Her directorial adaptation of Ta-Nehisi Coates’ Between the World and Me premiered on HBO and HBO Max, earning nominations from the NAACP Image Awards and Critics Choice Awards. Throughout her career, Forbes has received numerous honors, including an NAACP Image Award, the National Black Theatre Festival’s Larry Leon Hamlin Producer Award, and recognition from Root 100.
A graduate of Howard University, Forbes is widely recognized for her leadership in theater, television, and live events, and for amplifying the voices and stories of Black artists and communities.
