Miguel Angel Caballero

Miguel Angel Caballero is an award-winning Queer Mexican-American/Chicano writer, director, and producer whose work explores memory, identity and belonging through a deeply personal lens. A graduate of UCLA’s School of Theater, Film & Television, Miguel began his career in theater before moving into directing, a shift that continues to inform his collaborative, actor-centered approach behind the camera. As a director, Miguel’s films have won over 57 awards and screened at top festivals worldwide. His latest short, The Ballad of Tita and the Machines (executive produced by Lena Waithe), premiered at Tribeca, screened at TIFF (Rising Voices), and won both the Humanitas Prize and the Latinx Award at HollyShorts. His short Acuitzeramo premiered at the Morelia International Film Festival, was acquired by HBO Max, and continues to be programmed internationally. Broken Sunflower Hearts was named by Remezcla as one of the year’s Best U.S. Latino Shorts. The Library of Congress has officially recognized his three short films (The Ballad of Tita and the Machines, Acuitzeramo, Broken Sunflower Hearts), listing them in its “Latinx Representation in Film” Research Guide and cementing their cultural and historical significance in Latine cinema. Miguel is also an Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences Gold alum, as well as a Film Independent Project Involve and Fast Track Fellow.
