A MORE TO TALK ABOUT CONVERSATION

The Women of OK: Navigating Womanhood in Oklahoma!
ABOUT THIS CONVERSATION

This award-winning revival of OK! reveals new undertones of tension as we watch the way well-intentioned male desire and unchecked toxic masculinity can take a dark turn. So what is it like to be a woman navigating a fictional world that doesn’t shy away from big guns and messy relationships? In this talk, we’ll sit down with actresses who play Laurey, Ado Annie, and Aunt Eller to delve into how these women boldly stake their claim and their desires in what is typically seen as a “man’s world.”

Throughout the musical we see male characters fight over women and who “owns” them. Additionally, in the exchange between Jud and Ali, Ali seems to imply women are a burden to men. How do these systems affect you, particularly now with the on-going discussion about race and body-desirability, and has much changed since 1906?

More to...Connect

Representing Lea Tupu'anga/Mother Tongue - a short film now in Oscar contention  - Stacey Young (Founder and Executive Director of the Pacific Island Film Festival) underscores the very mission of More To Talk About. Once a film is made, we must create more opportunities to extend the impact potential of storytelling through conversation and connection.
